Monster Says
This Halloween, try playing this monstrous fun take on Simon Says! Just as with the original game, kids need to focus and pay attention so they only do things when the monster says “Monster says” beforehand.

Let’s Play!

Choose the first monster (a grown-up should lead the first round to demonstrate the game)! Each time the monster says to do something, make it Halloween-themed. You might say:
- Monster says, cackle like a witch
- Monster says, meow like a cat
- Monster says, do a monster walk
- Monster says, howl like a ghost

Then, the monster should say to do something without using “Monster says” beforehand. For example, they might say, “Meow like a cat!” Anyone who meows is either the next monster or out for that round!

Halloween Hints
- Try challenging your child and help build their self-control by having them start and stop the same action. For instance, “Monster says start cackling like a witch!” “Monster says, stop cackling like a witch!” “Monster says, start cackling like a witch again!” This gives them practice with self-control as well as thinking flexibly.
- Take turns being the monster! Your child will love being in control, and you’ll also experience how challenging it can sometimes be to exercise self-control – especially when there’s something really fun happening.
