What You Need

Music and your body!

Let’s Play!

El Juego de las Estatuas or the Statues Game is all about following directions, paying attention, and moving to music!

  1. Like with musical chairs, you use music to signal when to start and pause the game.
  2. While the music is playing, your family can dance, jump, make silly faces, stretch, and move as much as they can.
  3. Once you stop the music, everyone freezes like a statue!
  4. If any player moves or laughs while you are looking at them, then they are out.
  5. Continue with more rounds of music until there is only one player left: the winner!

Parent Tips

  1. Select upbeat songs with your child from genres like Salsa, Rock en Espanol, or Latin pop.
  2. Listen to Flor de Toloache’s Share a Smile on Noggin to get started.
  3. Ask your child to compare songs by asking questions:
    • Like with musical chairs, you use music to signal when to start and pause the game.
    • While the music is playing, your family can dance, jump, make silly faces, stretch, and move as much as they can.
  4. Encourage your child to try new movements as you listen to different genres.
